Candlelit mindfulness evening for the New Year

Is it for me?

A perfect tonic to January gloom, and the low mood that can result, this 90-minute session is for anyone needing to pause and give the gift of self-care. This accessible meditation session for charity is open to anyone spending uninterrupted time tuning in to mind, body and breath.

Why take a New Year candlelit mindfulness session with us?

We all need some time out, especially in the darkest, often most testing time of the year. This candelit mindfulness session assumes no previous experience of mindfulness, though people with an established practice may like to view the evening as a chance to refresh and deepen.

New Year can be a natural time for reflection and for re-assessing priorities or intentions for the year ahead.

This special New Year mindfulness evening is for anyone open to the idea of spending some time pausing after the busyness of the festive period, and in doing so, tuning in to our minds, bodies and hearts with kindness.

One of the wonderfully liberating aspects of mindfulness is the permission we give ourselves to step into a non-doing, non-fixing, non-achieving frame of mind, where we are not trying to change anything (including ourselves) – just becoming aware of our moment-to-moment experience as it unfolds.

This gentle, goal-less way we attend to our unfolding experience can come as a relief, when set against our 24/7, goal-driven society.

In this 90-minute meditation evening, we will drop into some simple, centering mindfulness practices geared around the universal theme of our breath.

These may include simple breath awareness (mindfulness of breathing) in different physical positions, very gentle mindful movement and a body scan.

Lucia Cockcroft, YATM's co-founder and experienced mindfulness and yoga teacher, will lead this special New Year meditation session.

All welcome – no previous experience of mindfulness expected or needed; just an openness to the process and a willingness to turn off demands and phones for 90 minutes! Please note: there is no expectation that participants should be able to sit on the floor, crossed-legged – chairs are available. However, please be aware the studio is on the second floor of an old building, with no lift.
