Although the practice of Yoga Nidra has always been an important part of the yoga tradition, it has only recently come to into the mainstream, aided by scientific studies showing the wide-ranging benefits (from improved sleep to dramatically lowered anxiety levels). This powerful guided relaxation practice is enjoyed snuggled up, lying down. There is no movement involved, and anyone can benefit. We invite you to see for yourself!

Why take a yoga nidra class with us?

Yoga Nidra is a powerful, scientifically validated form of deep guided relaxation and meditation, practised lying down. No movement is involved in the practice itself, and everyone can benefit. Important - please note: our yoga nidra sessions are led by experienced teachers who are specifically and highly trained to deliver yoga nidra.

Meaning 'yogic sleep', the practice is described as 'the queen of all relaxation practices... it's yoga where you don't need to move, you simply receive the nourishing practice effortlessly, by snuggling up and listening.'

Whilst you may fall asleep during a Yoga Nidra session, and some practices are specifically designed to induce sleep, it is common to feel as though you are somewhere between being awake and falling asleep.

It is difficult to describe the feeling of peace that can so often be experienced during Yoga Nidra - as the body begins to relax and become heavier, the mind drifts in and out of consciousness, everyday worries are forgotten and we eventually leave the session feeling renewed and energised, and as though we have had a far longer period of standard sleep.  But don't take our word for it - we'd like you to experience for yourself.:)

Our two main yoga nidra teachers, Vikki and Stephanie, are both highly trained in the art of yoga nidra, having trained with Uma Dinsmore-Tuli and Nirlipta Tuli on an intensive yoga nidra teacher training programme that is internationally recognised by the Independent Yoga Network.

Suitability

To decide whether our Yoga Nidra sesions are for you, simply ask yourself the following questions:

  • Are you looking for a friendly relaxation class, where everything is provided?
  • Are you looking for ways to de-stress and sleep better?
  • Do you believe yoga is about standing on your head and needing to be young or flexible? This class will challenge this!
  • Do you have an established yoga practice already and are looking to experience softer aspects of yoga?
  • What shall I bring?

    All equipment is provided for you, so there's no need to bring your own mat, blanket, bolster or block - we have everything you will need. :)

    We recommend wearing comfortable, loose-fitting clothes.
