Our approach

We take an accessible, mindful approach that is in line with yoga's ancient origins as a meditation practice. Our beginners' classes are friendly and supportive, and typically comprise people who are brand new to yoga as well as those who have been attending beginners' sessions for a little while.

We recommend attending beginners' classes for months, or years, before considering moving to a strong beginners/intermediate session.

Teachers are warm, welcoming, sensitive and highly trained. All classes are taught in a mindful manner, which allows you to progress at your own pace, without pressure.

Whilst our beginners sessions always vary in style and approach, according to the teacher's background, they have a common goal of teaching the fundamentals of yoga in a safe, attentive and non-judgemental way, allowing for you to become confident in your yoga practice over time.

Class structure

We recommend attending beginners’ classes for months or years before considering moving to a more advanced class. As such, beginners' classes are typically formed of those starting yoga for the first time and those who have been practising for a little while.

“Yoga is essentially a practice for your soul, working through the medium of your body.” ~ Tara Fraser

Class outline

  • Introduction to yoga postures (asana) - We will take time to gradually learn yoga postures, in a safe, thorough way, paying attention to correct alignment.

  • Introduction to breathwork (pranayama) - By inviting deeper, slower breathing patterns, we are able to re-balance our central nervous systems and promote feelings of relaxation and wellbeing.

  • Relaxation - A key part of mental and physical wellbeing, our capacity to relax and re-charge - and move out of our inflamed ‘fight or flight’ stress response - is re-learned over time.

  • Meditation - In many of our classes we introduce accessible meditation practises (often practised lying down) which can help still the mind and promote feelings wellness and reduce feelings of stress and anxiety.

Is this for me?

To decide whether our Beginners Yoga class is for you, simply ask yourself the following questions:

  • Are you looking for a small, friendly class, in a dedicated yoga and mindfulness environment, where everything is provided?

  • Perhaps you have tried yoga at a gym but found it too fast or impersonal?

  • Are you looking to increase flexibility and strength, but also wellbeing and relaxation?

  • Are you new, or relatively new to yoga, or seeking a fairly gentle class?
