Enjoy a rare chance for self-care: time to slow down, re-connect and rest deeply over a Saturday afternoon. We’ll enjoy lying down and seated guided meditations, slow silent walking, very gentle mindful movement. Definitely for those seeking to slow down rather than speed up! We’ll end with tea, chats and vegan treats (dark chocolate brownies anyone?).

The Deep Rest retreat exceeded my expectations on so many levels and I returned feeling inspired to make small changes in my own daily routines. The practical aspects - the beautiful location, facilities - made for a calming and healthy setting as a backdrop. A sincere thank you.

We love teaching these Deep Rest retreats which have been running in various forms - in-person, live steamed and across longer weekends - for five years. These very gentle afternoon retreats are held at the spacious, light and lovely Highwood Hall, just outside Chelmsford.

Accessible to most people, they are a chance to slow down, re-connect and rest in a 24/7 society where quiet and permission to relax are often so difficult to find. As a meditation and mindfulness-based afternoon this is geared towards those looking to pause, centre and give the gift of self-care.

We will sink into calming practices such as yoga nidra (guided meditation / relaxation), very gentle lying or seated mindful movement and the body scan. There will be some reflection on the coming of the new year and some poetry readings.

Sessions will be suitable for most people who can get on and off the floor (eg a yoga mat) with reasonable ease. Please note: there will be no traditional active yoga on this afternoon.

See notes in right-hand column for further guidance on suitability. Many practices will be enjoyed lying down; options for posture will always be given.

Herbal tea and healthy and almost healthy snacks will be provided at the end of the session where there will be a chance to connect with fellow students or to take this time to yourself.
