I could not let the weekend pass without letting you know what a Wonderful Restorative Yoga session I experienced on Saturday. I left the Mill floating - my body really needed the ME time, thank you so much.

Saturday Rest & Relax sessions

Yay! Our long-running, Rest & Relax workshops are back! These Saturday morning sessions are suitable for anyone seeking an extremely gentle, therapeutic approach blending elements of soft yoga and secular mindfulness.

These workshops are very different from a standard, active yoga class. Restorative Yoga uses supported static postures where we disengage muscles and relinquish effort, allowing ourselves to be still and to truly unwind.

Suitable for most people who can get on and off the floor easily, this increasingly popular practice invites mind, body and nervous system to deeply re-set by offering permission to slow down, in turn activating the parasympathetic (‘rest and digest’) part of our nervous systems.

We may also sink into some VERY gentle mindful movement, breathing practices and guided relaxation. For more on the mind / body benefits of Restorative Yoga please see below! Max ten students.

Your teacher:

Is this for me?

Our Rest and Relax workshops are suitable for almost everyone. They are:

  • Ideal for those looking to relieve stress and anxiety.

  • Great if you simply need to rest and relax!

  • A lovely cross-over between meditation and very gentle yoga, and so great for anyone interested in mindfulness.

  • Suitable for those who have limited mobility and/or flexibility. You will need to be able to lay on the floor for an extended period of time without discomfort, and to be able to get on and off the floor easily.

What shall I bring?

You are welcome to bring your own yoga mat or use one of ours. Please also bring a blanket. We recommend wearing comfortable, loose-fitting clothes.

Some proven benefits of Restorative Yoga:

  • Shifts us out of our usual ‘fight-or-flight’ state and stimulates the parasympathetic nervous system, lowering cortisol levels, heart rate, and blood pressure.

  • In turn this helps us to deeply de-stress on a biological level: the practice promotes the production of neurotransmitter GABA, calming nerve activity and helping alleviate feelings of anxiety and overwhelm. When done regularly Restorative Yoga decreases inflammation, lowers oxidative stress on cardiovascular cells, and helps stabilize blood sugar and metabolic functions.

  • Can improve sleep by unwinding the body, releasing muscle tension and calming racing thoughts.

  • Can ease chronic pain without placing any strain on the joints or rest of the body

  • Enhances mind-body awareness: by slowing down we encourage mindfulness, bringing greater attunement to what the body truly needs while releasing emotional tension.
