Fundraising live streamed Mindfulness and Poetry sessions

Thank you very much for a very relaxing mindfulness session with poetry. The readings really set the scene for the start of the winter. I would recommend this to everyone as a way to relax in our stressful everyday lives
— Eleanor

We are delighted to be running two further mindfulness and poetry live stream sessions over winter 2023/24. Having run each winter since the Covid lockdowns, these replenishing live stream sessions incorporate different forms of meditation and mindfulness, weaved in with carefully selected poetry readings.

Suitable for everyone, we hope to leave you feeling centred, rested and inspired. We will record these sessions (only Lucia, the teacher, will be recorded) and will send out the recording after class for you to re-visit or take part in your own time if you are unable to make the live event.

Our winter 2023/24 fundraising cause is the amazing charity People’s trust for Endangered Species (PTES).

Astonishingly and tragically, two thirds of the Uk’s precious wildlife species have declined over the past 50 years. One quarter of native mammals are now at risk of extinction in Britain. Set up in 1977 and working on the ground using an underpinning of scientific research this incredible charity works to protect critically endangered wildlife.

How you can help support PTES

After a nominal registration fee of £1 to join each session, donations (of any amount - we suggest between £12 and £25) are invited direct to our PTES JustGiving page here. For more info please see right-hand info bar. For more information about the charity, go to their website here.

Mindfulness: gentle presence

The secular practice of mindfulness - which can also be translated as 'gentle presence' or simply 'awareness' - invites us to gently drop out of our heads, into our bodies and senses.

Mindfulness can help us feel less calmer, more relaxed and far less identified with our own thoughts. Poetry can have a similar effect, soothing the nervous system and inviting us to be open to different worlds and perspectives.

A range of options will be given for posture, and practices will include lying down meditations (such as yoga nidra - deep guided relaxation). All welcome.

These sessions will be led by Lucia, Yoga at the Mill’s co-founder. Lucia has a long background in experiencing mindfulness and yoga nidra (deep guided relaxation) as a student and teacher. She has an interest in poetry, perhaps arising from her former life as a journalist and an English degree many years ago!
